CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — In just a few weeks, some of the best cyclists in the world will race through the streets of Charleston.
Two stores in the Capital City — Elk City Cycles and the Charleston Bicycle Center — have seen an increase in sales in the past few weeks. Elk City Cycles Owner Brandon Cline says he’s had inquiries from out-of-state racers.

“We’ve had a lot of people coming in that are enthusiastic about the race coming up,” Kline said. “I think that’s going to be the best part of it is how much it inspires people to pick up a bike or maybe they did it or used to and they kind of fell out of it and it gives them that spark.”
Cyclists have spent thousands of dollars on top-of-the-line equipment and during races can reach speeds of up to 30 mph.
“Imagine Tom Brady, Peyton Manning playing football at the University of Charleston’s stadium,” Charleston Bicycle Center Owner Andrew Green said. “That’s kind of what we’re talking about here.”
The Pro Road National Championships take place on May 15 and end on May 19.
