UPDATE (5:09 p.m. on May 3, 2024) — The Sam’s Club in South Point has reopened after police investigated a bomb threat Friday.
In a post on the Lawrence County Ohio Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, officials said that a person sent a bomb threat over phone to the Sam’s Club around 11:25 a.m.
The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office helped evacuate the building alongside the Fayette Township Fire Department. Bomb detecting K-9s were called in from the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Columbus Fire Department to sweep the area.
After an extensive search, no explosive devices were found, and the store was reopened.
The FBI was contacted to help locate the source of the threatening call. The investigation is ongoing.
SOUTH POINT, OH (WOWK) — Officials confirmed that there is an active bomb threat at a Sam’s Club in South Point, Ohio, Friday.
According to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, multiple personnel are on scene from the Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Columbus Division of Fire as of 1:05 p.m. The CDF also reportedly brought bomb dogs to the scene.
No arrests are reported at this time, and the situation is ongoing.
